5 Ford – Path to the Presidency
•Nixon’s Vice President Spiro Agnew forced to resign over bribery charges •Speaker of the House Gerald Ford becomes Vice President upon enactment of 25th Amendment. •Becomes First President to be appointed to office with the resignation of Richard Nixon from the Watergate Scandal Finishes Nixon term

7 Ford – Domestic Policy After Nixon was forced to resign, Ford attempted to heal the wounds caused by the Watergate Scandal. Continued many of Nixon’s domestic policies. Inflation and unemployment continued to rise Draft Amnesty - Ford Allows Draft evaders to come home Narrowly defeated by Jimmy Carter in the election of 1976, Fords controversial presidential pardon of Nixon for Watergate crimes contributed to his election defeat.

8 Ford – Foreign Policy Ford continued Nixon’s policy of Détente, continued arms talks with the Soviets. Ford continued support of Israel in the Middle East (Israeli victory of 6 day war in 1967 and the Yom Kippur war of 1973 greatly increase Israel's territory) US influence attempted to promote peace.
