2 Timetable Follow your individual timetable for all five sessions
(Break is at 11:15am, lunch is at 1:05pm)

3 Pathways to A Level All students need passes including Maths and English at grade 5 APS 5 Inc 5 in Maths and English Means that you will follow the Vocational Route and be able to opt for A Level YOU MUST MEET SUBJECT SPECIFIC CRITERIA APS 5.5 Means you will have the option to opt for two A Levels alongside your Vocational course APS 6 or above Means that you will have the option to follow 3 A Levels Students with an APS of 7 can opt for 4 A Levels – EXTREMELY RARE

4 Entrance Criteria – FAQ’s
Students need passes including Maths and English at grade 4 Btec, grade 5 A Level To commence an A Level course students must have an APS of more than 5 and the number of A Levels they can opt for depends on the overall APS Students can do a combination of A Level and Vocational courses You will also need to meet subject specific criteria (6 for most A Level subjects other than Sciences and Maths) YES YOU CAN GO TO UNIVERSITY IF YOU STUDY VOCATIONAL COURSES!

YES, IF YOU meet the entrance criteria are willing to turn up every day and give it your best agree with our high standards and expectations of students are willing to embrace our Catholic ethos (CoRE, supporting the school community, work for social justice)

NO, IF YOU are only coming here because you don’t know where else to go or just because your friends are coming! are not really committed to the courses we offer – two years is a long time to study something you don’t like! are not willing to work hard – we will tell you to leave

8 Sixth Form Subjects and Enrolment– FAQ’s
Choices Fayre Monday 2nd September – all subjects chosen at this stage are provisional Y12 Choices confirmation meeting Tuesday 3rd September – confirm choices –a quick process? For majority of students three subjects chosen (small number can opt for more)– dependent on GCSE results and APS (This will be discussed and confirmed in Y12 Choices meeting 3 September) All students have to opt for CoRE even if opting for Philosophy and Ethics – Diocesan requirement Students who do not have a 4 in one of Maths or English Language will need to resit in Sixth Form and attend lessons – first resit November 2019 Possible to combine A Level and Vocational courses

9 Summer Sixth Form Preparation Work
All A Level and Vocational courses have summer preparation tasks to complete. WHY? - Insight into the subject in Sixth Form. Chance to consider: Are you going to enjoy studying the subject for two years? Are you able to succeed in your chosen subject? Two years and a U grade at the end?? Submission of tasks – week commencing 16 September No / inadequate / incomplete work – no place on course

10 September Attendance Expectations
Attend am and pm registration – every day. Less than 90% attendance no progression to Y13 In school all day every day – Contact lessons and Study Time One session Home Study allocated September – can be withdrawn if you don’t receive excellent Course Reviews / attendance / effort scores Attend at least 90% of all lessons to secure examination entrance at the end of Year 13 Absences – covered by notes and parent line. No phone call to parent line = phone call to parents from the Sixth Form Support Officer

11 Dress Code School is your place of work, so
Professional work appropriate dress Dignity Respect Pride Ambassadors Would you like to be taught by teachers dressed as you are? No, then it’s not appropriate! (Dress code poor– Form Tutor warning in first instance, persistent - Director of Sixth warning, communicate with home no change - sent home)

12 Dress Code – September 2015 onwards
RULE Students should be dressed • in business attire • appropriately for a job interview Students must remember that they are in a Catholic community, and therefore should dress with dignity, pride and respect at all times. How students are dressed should NEVER undermine their dignity. SCHOOL SIXTH FORM DRESS IS MORE FORMAL THAN COLLEGE DRESS

A formal smart skirt / dress / trousers (skirts must be not be excessively short in length) Leggings / Jeggings/ Jeans A smart respectable top (not see through ,low-cut, cropped) Strappy / revealing tops Smart shoes / smart boots Trainers / plimsoles / “Vans” / “Converse” Hoodies Shorts Excessively short skirts

15 Assessment / Monitoring
PARS are replaced with Course Reviews Three in Year 12 PLUS a Year 12 Exam result certificate to be able to pass into Y13 All places provisional subject to first Course Review Intervention – “Next Step” targets for all subjects on Course Reviews, Support Meetings

17 ALPS You get an ALPS Minimum Target Grade for each subject
Referred to in your assessed work and your Course Reviews Minimum Target Grade – based on average performance GCSE subjects Progress is measured You need to take ownership of your ALPS MTG and know what it is

22 A Level – Reforms What does it mean for you?
Linear exam (100% of grade) at end of Year 13 – “no banking of points” at the end of Year 12 HOWEVER - Students will sit internal UCAS indicator exams in Year 12 to be able to progress into Year 13. WHY? Support university applications Secure predicted grades AND Students will need to relearn Year 12 content for their terminal exam in Year 13 – preparing them early and familiarity with examinations

23 Vocational Qualifications
2 year courses Worth equivalent of 1 A Level Vocational - Business/ Applied Law/ Sport Fitness/ Criminology / Media / ICT / Health and Social Care Continuous Assessment and 2 externally assessed units Can be combined with A Level programme of study

24 UCAS System used to apply for university
Preparation starts Day One Y12 GCSE grades will be the first reason universities accept / reject your application BUT your predicted grades from Y12 will be the second Year 12 exam results impact on where you can apply, apply Autumn term Ucas.com / Unifrog – research courses / universities – Dec 19 onwards
