Aspect of a Slope Aspect is the direction a slope is facing.
This is important because it dictates the amount of sunlight an area of land receives. This has a big impact on it's microclimate, whether it is warmer or cooler, moister or drier than surrounding areas. This is important when investigating vegetation communities or buying a block of land. In Australia, land with a northerly aspect will generally be warmer than land with a southerly aspect

Aspect of a Slope Below is a photo of a valley in Kosciuszko National Park toward the end of winter. The snow has remained on the slope with the cooler aspect but melted on the slope with the warmer aspect. The line A-B on the map shows the location of the photo. Slope A has a southerly aspect and B a northerly aspect.
