It sets out the central issues or questions that you intend to address.
It outlines the general area of study within which your research falls, referring to the current state of knowledge and any recent debates on the topic.
It also demonstrates the originality of your proposed research.

12. WHAT IS A LITERATURE REVIEW?
A literature review is an evaluative report of information found in the literature related to your selected area of study.
The review should describe, summarise, evaluate and clarify this literature.
It should give a theoretical base for the research and help you (the author) determine the nature of your project.
Clearly states some previous works in the area
