SLA: Inventory Health Why build inventory? Define the technology Align to Contract Attributes Understand Dependencies What is needed to source or disconnect
4
Need accurate descriptions to know the optimization opportunities
Define the technology Data – T1, E1, DS3, OC12, OC192 Data – MPLS – Port/Access Internet – Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) Internet – Internet Exchange Peering (IXP) Data Center – Space Data Center – Power Data Center – Crossconnect Voice – ISDN – Primary Rate Interface (PRI) Voice – ISDN – Basic Rate Interface (BRI) Voice – Local DID Voice – Local – Remote Call Forward Voice – Local – Measured Business Line (1MB) Voice – Toll Free – Switched Voice – Toll Free – Dedicated Need accurate descriptions to know the optimization opportunities
5
Align service attributes to Contract attributes
Contract terms may force a more detailed inventory for automated exception management/auditing – a standard TEM service offering but works differently by platform (and may still not provide the detail required by customers) Examples: $0.15 EACH Switched Toll $30 EACH PRI $14 EACH / $28 EACH Port / Access pricing
6
UNDERSTAND DEPENDENCIES
Fiber ring components DS3 with T1 circuits PRIs with DIDS Toll Free Trunk Groups with Dedicated Numbers (ISDN or SIP) Circuits & Cross connects BTNs, B-Channels, D-Channels Port & Access
7
WHAT IS NEEDED TO SOURCE / DISCONNECT
EXAMPLE – SOURCING “ …just copy whatever the Chicago office has” EXAMPLES - DISCONNECTS: PRI services may bill in one piece or up to 25 pieces Leave something off of a disconnect order and BILLING MAY NOT STOP Long haul circuits and local access Local access often overlooked by suppliers and BILLING CONTINUES Cross connects not in inventory and related to a circuit WILL BE MISSED Subaccounts not captured in an order may CONTINUE TO BILL TAXES/FEES
8
COMMON REPORT REQUESTS
All network circuits with service type, speed, contract rate and remaining commitment Hub infrastructure with dependent services (Voice, Data, Toll Free) Total solution cost when there are many pieces: Data Example: One San Jose – Hong Kong circuit (6 records) (1) Long-haul circuit (2) Local access circuits (2) Cross-connects (1) Monitoring services Voice Example: One ISDN PRI solution cost for SIP ROI (up to 25 records) (1) PRI service record (1) PRI D - Channel record (23) B-channel records Cisco once had a P2P solution from California to Cost Rica that the supplier billed in 11 pieces
9
What can be measured? (pARTIAL LIST)
Records with no billing Records with no location Records with no VALID location (as defined by the customer) Records with charges exceeding a reasonable rate based on service type (no $ x-connects!) B-channels with no Parent Ports with no access Access with no associated circuit or port record DIDs with no parent Dedicated Toll Free with no route plan or trunk group Records with no install date All but #3 can be obtained from the supplier
