5 1970’s 1980’s The Evolution of EAM In the 1970’s In the 1980’s
Emergence of mainframe solutions Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) created with consultants In the 1980’s Emergence of desktop systems Continued use of CMMS systems, with consulting companies reselling custom systems Custom solutions allow for high customization and industry specific capabilities, but have limited integrators, difficult to upgrade, closed technology that doesn’t keep pace with technology changes. They also have the highest projects costs. 1980’s

6 1990’s 2000’s The Evolution of EAM In the 1990’s In the early 2000’s
Client server replace mainframe and desktop, combining both on a LAN Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) extends CMMS as a “COTS” In the early 2000’s Internet Architecture – Java and .NET – with industry specific solutions “All In One” Systems from ERP companies Client Server solutions align with some standards, but industry solutions require a “copy” of the base system. Higher project costs with fewer integrators. All in One ERP solutions have less flexibility and use proprietary standards, while having a common process and data model, with high consultant support. Project costs are high to support industry specific capabilities and ongoing modifications. 2000’s

7 2010 and beyond The Evolution of EAM Industry Frameworks
Leveraging industry solutions from many parts of the business Incorporating integration, optimization and analytics To broaden the solution and achieve greater value Interconnected, Instrumented and Intelligent Systems For transforming the enterprise by leveraging smarter infrastructure Industry Framework offers high flexibility, web and industry standards, built in process and data models, with many consultants that can support it, while also making it easiest for upgrades of industry solutions. Lowest overall project costs.

Extend service to mobile and web endpoints helping one client increase sales with new promotions from 15% to 75% Deploy Smarter Physical Infrastructures helping one organization recognize & repair over 50% of issues before operations impact Protect and manage data helping one organization reduce the time it takes to backup critical data by 80% Speeding service delivery from 45 days to 20 minutes Increasing sales with new promotions from 15% to 75% Recognizing & repairing over 50% of issues before operations impact Reducing the time it takes to backup critical data by 80%

12 Smarter infrastructure is pervasive, thanks to improvements in economics and technical feasibility
Transportation Facilities Plant/Production IT Linear assets Bridges have built-in sensors to monitor stress and indicate potential failure. Locomotives and most ‘rolling stock’ have on-board computer systems using telematics for real-time diagnostics. Smart buildings use building automation systems to optimize comfort, safety and energy consumption.
