Agriculture is defined as the broad industry engaged in the production of plants and animals for food and fiber, the provision of agricultural supplies and services, and the processing, marketing, and distribution of agricultural products. Agriscience is defined as the application of scientific principles and new technologies to agriculture. Agriscience Careers Introduction to Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources Unit 1 Lesson 1.3 Finding Your Career Path Job vs. Career Job – A specific task done as part of one’s profession or for an agreed price Example – Stable hand Career – a person’s profession Example – Animal Trainer The terms job and career are often used interchangeably. However, a career is the profession or occupation of a person whereas jobs are the assignments within that career. For instance, a person may choose a career in agricultural sales. He might start out as a inside salesperson taking customer orders over the phone or web. If he excels, he may move into outside sales where he travels meeting customers and earning new business. A successful salesperson might be moved into a management position overseeing many salespeople. A good manager may move into higher positions such as CEO, chief executive officer.
