Unit B5 Eyebrow and eyelash treatments

2 Eyelash and eyebrow tinting
Ideal for people that have allergies to make-up Useful for clients with light-coloured lashes and eyebrows Ideal for clients going on holiday Useful for clients that do a lot of physical exercise such as swimming Less time is required for the client to apply make-up Useful for clients who wear glasses or contact lenses and find it tricky to apply mascara Useful for people who work or live in a hot environment – no concern about the heat causing make-up to smudge or run

3 Skin test procedure Wash hands.
Apply small amount of tint behind the ear or in the crease of the elbow. Leave the tint to develop for 5 minutes. Remove excess tint and advise client to wash off the stain after 48 hours. If there is a positive reaction, the treatment cannot be carried out.

11 Contra-indications to eyebrow shaping
Eyebrow-shaping service should not be carried out if a client has any of the following: inflamed skin around the eyebrow area bruising eye infections swellings cuts or abrasions scar tissue under six months old any skin disorder which may be irritated and cause discomfort if touched.

12 Artificial lashes: contra-indications
Any inflammation around the eye area Any swellings Any eye disorders such as conjunctivitis Skin infections Cuts or abrasions Extremely sensitive skin Contact lenses Highly nervous client, in case glue gets into the eyes Eyes which blink a lot Positive reaction to the sensitivity test

13 Equipment, materials and products required for an artificial lash treatment
Strip eyelashes Individual eyelashes Lash adhesive Tweezers Scissors Mascara brush Non-oily eye make-up remover Cotton wool Cotton wool buds Surgical spirit Solvent to remove lashes if necessary Headband Disposable spatulas Towels Tissues Hand mirror

14 Contra-actions Eyes may begin to water during treatment if the lashes begin to irritate the eyes. Tears may cause the adhesive to form white crystals which spoil the final look of the eyelashes. Wipe away any tears using tissues. Use a solvent to remove any eyelashes that cause irritation during and after treatment.

15 After-care advice for artificial lashes
Use oil-free eye make-up remover because oil will cause the eyelashes to separate from the natural lashes. Client may apply make-up over the artificial lashes. Try not to touch or fiddle with the lashes as this could lead to them falling off. Do not shower or go swimming directly after having the treatment. It is advised to wait several hours. Do not use a sauna as the hot temperature could cause the hairs to loosen and may make the lashes become frizzy.
