Stiffness (k) is equal to force (x) divided by change in length (Δm). Vertical stiffness (kvert) is a measure of system/whole body stiffness and is equal to maximum vertical ground reaction force (Fmax) divided by change in whole body centre of mass (ΔCOM). Vertical stiffness therefore is regulated by the function and interaction/coordination of individual anatomical structures and stiffness at joints. Benjamin G Serpell et al.
