1 Feeling Worried – your experience
Think privately of a recent occasion when you were worried about something that might happen. B. Continue thinking about: Whether it did happen 2. If so, whether it was as bad as you thought it would be If not, whether you need have worried What difference, if any, worrying made to what happened Then, share your thoughts about 1, 2, 3 and 4 with a talking partner, and discuss whether worrying could actually make things worse.

2 Feeling Worried – how much
As a whole group, discuss: Whether grown ups worry more, or less, than children (Give examples and reasons for your view.) 2. Whether worrying could sometimes make things better (Give examples.) Whether some people worry too much, and others not enough (Give reasons.) What could be done to help people worry less, or more?

3 Feeling Worried - consequences
As a whole group, discuss: Whether most people worry about what others think of them If so, whether that leads to good consequences more often than to bad Whether some people are so worried about what other people may think of them that they avoid doing new things or meeting new people If so, what can others do to help them, and what can they do to help themselves?

4 Being Calm – your experience
Think privately of a recent occasion when you were worried about something but managed to calm your worries. B. Continue thinking about whether you: ‘talked yourself’ into being calm 2. did something else to make you calm just found something else to think about Then, share your thoughts about 1, 2 and 3 with a talking partner, and discuss which of them is your most common way of calming down.

5 Being Calm – the difference
As a whole group, discuss what difference being calm can make to: how the person thinks how the person acts 3. how people around feel 4. how people around act

6 Being Calm – advice (1) In small groups (4 or 5 people), consider again the following ways people have of calming themselves down: ‘talking yourself’ into being calm doing something else to make you calm just finding something else to think about Make sure you understand each of these well by considering why they seem to work.

7 Being Calm – advice (2) As a whole group, share your strategies, and
list them on the board using short summaries or ‘headlines’ B. Then see if you can agree which is the best strategy (= way) of calming yourself down, and which is the least good. Try to give reasons for your choices.
