Kansas Airport Improvement Program
Local Funding Resources Twenty-Four Projects at airports across the state have been selected for KAIP funding for planning, constructing or rehabilitating public use general aviation airports. Kansas Department of Transportation

UAS Integration Pilot Program
KDOT was selected as one of 10 participants in the FAA’s UAS Integration Pilot Program, which will shape the future of Drones in the US. Kansas Department of Transportation

New Division Responsible with leading the state into the future by working to bring innovative technologies that relate to transportation and management data to Kansas. Truck Parking Information Management System
Multi-state Truck Parking Information System. Will improve safety and efficiency of America’s freight network. Provides real-time parking availability to truck drivers through dynamic messages, phone aps, websites and other communication methods. Kansas Department of Transportation

Kansas has one percent of the country’s population but it is home to three and a half percent of the public road miles that make up our country’s system. Kansas Department of Transportation

Moving the Economy On average, $606 million worth of freight moves across the state daily. 9,414 center line miles make up the state highway system 32 billion public miles traveled Over 2 Million registered drivers and vehicles. Kansas Department of Transportation

Kansas Rail There are 4,529 miles of rail lines owned and operated in Kansas: 1,452 Shortline miles 2,723 Class 1 miles 41 Switching/Terminal miles In 2017, over 7.4 million rail carloads traveled across KDOT tracks. Two new transload facilities are in operation in Great Bend and Garden City. Kansas Department of Transportation

LEWIS & CLARK VIADUCT Reconstruction of the Westbound Lewis and Clark Viaduct will begin this year. $64 Million Project Expected to finish in 2020

Looking Ahead KDOT worked with the Kansas Legislature to create a transportation task force. Leading into the next transportation program. We are actively recruiting engineers. Moving Kansas into the future with the new Division of Innovative Technologies. Kansas Department of Transportation

Transportation Task Force
A bill was passed in the Kansas Legislature to create a transportation task force. The task force will be made up of a mix of legislators and transportation stakeholders from industry, government (local and state) and users. The task force will meet at least 8 times across the state in open meetings. Kansas Department of Transportation
