A experimental poster should include…
Components A experimental poster should include… Title Author(s) & Affiliation(s) Introduction Methods Results Conclusion References Acknowledgements When distilling: -What do you want your audience to remember from reading your poster? -Who is my audience? (what theories should I explain) -Can I say it in a graphic? Posters are not the same as papers. They’re more like billboards. From far away, someone should be able to get the gist of your poster, perhaps from the title.
4
Your posters are asking interesting question, your title should provide the answer in a nutshell.
Imagine that your reader were only going to read your title. What information can convey in just the title? Try to convey the take-home message of you poster. Use active voice! Title is the largest component of the poster. Author(s) should be placed just below the title, with small font. Next, lets talk about the Introduction…
5
Introduction State your hypothesis/theory
Explain key models, theories, and terms Bullet point main points of comps (subheadings)
6
Methods Participants Total Number Age Explain any novel methodologies
Provide example stimuli Examples! (stimuli, questions asked of participants, rating scales used, and so forth) LIT REVIEW: - General outline of theories you used
7
Results What results are the most important?
Which of my results are the most important to present? Because poster space is limited, a few key findings should be chosen to present on the poster. If a visitor is really interested in the specifics of the data, he or she can discuss it with the presenter or follow up after the conference in more detail. - Graph & stats LIT REVIEW: Main things you learned
9
What conclusions can my data
Discussion What conclusions can my data strongly support? What conclusions can I realistically make? Same language
10
Composition Arrange your poster for "flow", typically from upper left to lower right, to guide the reader. Align Sections Preserve some empty space. Questions to ask when designing the layout: For every piece of information: can I illustrate with a diagram or picture Is everything section aligned? Does it flow in one direction.

Color 2-3 Strong Colors Consistency Solid color background
Most people chose blue – challenge not to include it!
14
Color Monochrome – Choose one color and vary it
Analogous – Choose one or two colors next to each other on the color wheel Complementary – colors across from each other; these work better when not placed next to each other
