New Meal Pattern 2012 Idaho Child Nutrition Programs

Grade Level: K-5 6-8 9-12 Daily minimum 1 oz. 1 oz. 2 oz. Weekly min/max 8-10 oz. 9-10 oz. 10-12 oz.

No separate meat/meat alternate component requirement May substitute 1 oz. equivalent m/ma for 1 oz. equivalent of grains after minimum daily grain requirement is met

To receive the additional 6 cents reimbursement, servings must be the planned portion sizes to: Assure meeting the minimum/maximum requirements Assure students receive the appropriate nutrients Assure food lasts until the end of the serving line Assure finances stay under control

A variety of lean Meats/Meat Alternates is encouraged

One ounce natural, cooked, skinless, un-breaded portion Equals one ounce of Meat/Meat Alternate

Four ounces (weight) or ½ cup (volume) Equals one ounce of Meat/Meat Alternate

Two tablespoons Nut Butter: almond, cashew, peanut, reduced fat peanut, sesame, soy, sunflower Equals one ounce of Meat/Meat Alternate

Such as sunflower seeds, almonds, hazelnuts, etc. May be used to meet no more than 1/2 of the Meat/Meat Alternate component with another M/MA to fulfill the requirement One ounce (weight) nuts Equals one ounce of Meat/Meat Alternate

2.2 ounces (weight) or 1/4 cup (volume) with 5 or more grams of protein commercially prepared Tofu Equals one ounce of Meat/Meat Alternate
