Introducing the GCU Research
Publication Repository: An academic research resource Professor John Marshall Director Academic Research Development
2
ResearchOnline@GCU Why do we need a repository?
It is a condition of grant to make available the fruits of publicly funded research It brings together the output of the University’s research activity in one place and helps raise internal awareness of what we do in research It gives researchers worldwide access to our research output, which helps promote citation of our outputs and foster collaboration via alert functionality It will help us prepare reports on research achievement for external bodies, including preparing for REF2014
3
ResearchOnline@GCU: Implementation
The system is being developed by ARD and the Library on behalf of the University Research Committee The repository has been populated with publications records submitted to RAE2008 by a librarian dedicated to this task. In the next few months academic staff will be asked to submit details of their peer reviewed publications that have appeared since RAE2008 for inclusion in the repository The University research committee will use the repository publications for a mock REF assessment to be carried out in the late spring 2011. To be sure of consideration in the REF mock exercise, you should ensure that your publications are submitted to the Library

Once the new School structures are in place the quality of research material deposited in the formal repository will be ensured via a process relevant to the appropriate discipline. Staff may set up a personal selected works page for their outputs including professional and other non-academic publications Once fully developed, the proposed University Research Information management system (RIMS ) will hold publication metadata referring to digital objects placed in the repository. Selection of publications for inclusion in REF2014 will be recorded in RIMS
