This section will detail the pacts and agreements that were made to allow Collective Security to develop.

2. The Locarno Agreement 1923 Made in Locarno in 1923
It meant Germany accepted her frontiers with Belgium and France
This would halt any chances of invasion
Britain, France, Germany and Italy signed this agreement
Strengthened the cause of “collective security”

3. Kellogg Briand Pact 1928 62 Nations signed this agreement in 1928
Also know as the Pact of Paris or the Treaty Renouncing War
It meant that nations would not use war as a means of settling disputes
War was only an option in self defence.

4. Anglo/German Naval Agreement 1935
Signed by both Britain and Germany after Hitler announced his rearmament programme
Allowed Germany equality in the air
Equal submarines of the British Empire
35% of Britain’s naval power.

5. Non intervention Policy
Introduced by Britain in an attempt to save becoming involved in Spanish Civil War
Signed by Britain, France, Germany, Russia and Italy
Actively promoted Non-Intervention in this dispute.

6. Munich Agreement 1938
The Munich Agreement was agreed by Britain, Italy, France and Germany
Agreed Hitler could take parts of German speaking Czechoslovakia (Sudetenland) on the understanding the remainder would be untouched
A plebiscite (vote) would then be held
March 1939, Hitler broke this agreement and took over the remainder of Czechoslovakia.

7. Nazi/Soviet Non Aggression Pact 1939
Meant, if Germany attacked Poland, Russia would remain neutral
Once completed, Poland would be split between the 2 countries
This allowed Hitler to continue his plans for Lebensraum
