body – physical vehicle
soul – will, emotions, memories
spirit – the ‘life’ of a person; the eternal part
IMPERFECT comparison (not a theological statement!)

God in ‘action’ – Holy Spirit

Who or what is the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is
a ‘person’ (John 14:26 etc ‘He’ not ‘it’)
the Comforter & guide, who will teach & remind us of the words of Jesus (John 14:26)
the inner presence of God; guarantee of our inheritance
The giver of life (John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life)

Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Romans 5:5

13. I Corinthians 12:4-11
There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 

14. I Corinthians 12:4-11
… to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

21. Avoiding Errors The Holy Spirit is God Hebrews 3:7, 1 John 5:7
Receiving God’s Spirit happens when we are saved (Ephesians 1:13-14 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.)

Receiving God’s Spirit happens when we are saved
Being filled with the Spirit is a renewable energy source (Acts 4:31) (Are you BOLD to witness?)
Choosing the HS requires putting off some things:
Walk in the Spirit (Gal 5:16)
Those who are Christ’s have CRUCIFIED the flesh (v24)
Let us walk in the Spirit (v25)
And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

23. CONCLUSION The Holy Spirit is God at work in us through:
the gifts that empower us with the will & ability to do what God wants
the fruit of a character that is becoming more like Jesus
