What is a proportion? An equation written in the form stating that two ratios are equivalent.

How do we solve for the missing number in a proportion? 1) Write a ratio given in the problem, INCLUDING THE UNITS 2) Set this ratio equal to a new ratio. Fill in the units, but not the numbers 3) Match up the unused number with its unit. 4) Do the same operation to top and bottom to get to the new ratio.
