PROPORTIONS

Review Convert to percent form.

What is a proportion? An equation written in the form stating that two ratios are equivalent.

How do we solve for the missing number in a proportion? 1) Write a ratio given in the problem, INCLUDING THE UNITS 2) Set this ratio equal to a new ratio. Fill in the units, but not the numbers 3) Match up the unused number with its unit. 4) Do the same operation to top and bottom to get to the new ratio.

The ratio of books to cards is 2 to 3. If there are 12 books, how many cards are there? 1) Write a ratio given in the problem, INCLUDING THE UNITS

The ratio of books to cards is 2 to 3. If there are 12 books, how many cards are there? 2) Set this ratio equal to a new ratio. Fill in the units, but not the numbers

The ratio of books to cards is 2 to 3. If there are 12 books, how many cards are there? 3) Match up the unused number with its unit.

4) Do the same operation to top and bottom to get to the new ratio. The ratio is not your answer! The answer is just 18 cards. The ratio of books to cards is 2 to 3. If there are 12 books, how many cards are there?

The ratio of eggs to bells is 4:3. If there are 24 bells, how many eggs are there? 1) Write a ratio given in the problem, INCLUDING THE UNITS

The ratio of eggs to bells is 4:3. If there are 24 bells, how many eggs are there? 3) Match up the unused number with its unit.

The ratio of eggs to bells is 4:3. If there are 24 bells, how many eggs are there? 4) Do the same operation to top and bottom to get to the new ratio. The ratio is not your answer! The answer is just 32 eggs.

The ratio of dolls to cars is 5:1. 1) If there are 10 cars, how many dolls are there? 2) If there are 10 dolls, how many cars are there? 50 dolls 2 cars
