Social Sciences- Effective Use of Data A Piece of the Puzzle to Improve Student Achievement Skill Code Skill Description- Web= Cognitive Level SR Simple Recall:  usually a Web level 1 question- requires a student to recall content information in a simple manner. RA Recall Application:  usually a Web level 1 or 2 question- requires a student to recall content information and apply it in some manner. TA/ QA Text Analysis/Application & Quote Analysis/Application:  usually a Web level 2 or 3 question- requires a student to read and analyze or apply an excerpt from a text. This category also includes analyzing quotes which is usually a web level 2 or 3 type of question, and requires a student to read and analyze or apply meaning from a quote. SA Stimuli Application:  usually a Web level 2 or 3 question- requires a student to analyze a stimulus, such as a graph, timeline, chart, image etc., and extract meaning from the stimuli. PC Political Cartoon:  usually a Web level 2 or 3 question- requires a student to extract meaning regarding content from a political cartoon. Jackie- Explain to participants that each question on the EOC for either Civics or US History can be assigned a skill code as described on this screen. 2 minutes

Answer the following three questions: What jumps out at you based on Student Y’s response data? What specific resource(s) can a teacher use to remediate? What should be the skill focus of this remediation? Bob- 6-7 minutes

Social Sciences- Permeating Skills A Piece of the Puzzle to Improve Student Achievement Using Data: Best Practices Strategic use of content focus reports is a must. Students need to OWN their data- assessment should not be just a grade. Data Chats should NOT be whole group- it should be a conversation with each student individually- maximum time needed: 3 minutes per student. Bob- Wrap Up- 2 minutes.
