Jackson Pollock ( ), an American painter and a leading figure of the Abstract Expressionist movement. Nicknamed “Jack the dripper” because he dripped and threw paint on large canvases that lay on the floor. Instead of using brushes he manipulated the canvases with sticks, trowels or knives. He also mixed `sand, broken glass or other foreign matter'. This manner of Action painting expressed his mood.
