Chapter 24 The Giver
2
The Giver ended with Jonas and Gabriel climbing up a snowy hill, finding a sled and riding down the hill on that sled. As they got closer to the bottom Jonas appears to see windows and colored lights shining out of the windows. He also appears to hear music, but the last sentence creates doubt, “But perhaps it was only an echo.” It was unclear to the reader what happened to Jonas and Gabriel because they were both very weak, tired, cold, and hungry from their long journey.

Your job in this assignment is to write the next chapter of the novel, Chapter 24.
Consider the following: Did they really find the Elsewhere they were looking for? Was this just a memory, or a real experience? What happened in the community? How did the Giver and his family react to Jonas' departure? Also, don’t forget the weak, cold, hungry, and tired state Jonas and Gabriel found themselves in at the end of the story.

Remember this is a NARRATIVE, a STORY, so make sure you use descriptive details, and dialogue to tell your chapter in the same way that the author Lois Lowry told the story. Use clues from the story, figurative language, and your five senses (sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste). Make sure you are SHOWING your reader what happened, NOT TELLING them what happened. Your chapter should be 1- 2 pages long.
