MASSACHUSETTS CAREER READY DATABASE
INTRODUCTION TO THE MASSACHUSETTS CAREER READY DATABASE
2
Creating Work-Based Learning Plans
I want to create a Work-Based Learning Plan for each of the students in my internship programs and summer jobs programs.
3
Managing Information I want to print out a list of the students in my internship program…. I want to provide a count of students who participate in my programs. I want to keep track of the performance review dates for the students in my program. (And of course we use the database to produce quarterly and annual reports.)
4
Looking at Employers…. Who are the employers who work with the Connecting Activities initiative?
5
What skills do participants use in work-based learning experiences?
Looking at Skills…. What skills do participants use in work-based learning experiences?
6
Looking at Career Activities….
What career development activities do schools in my region provide for students? Who are our employer and community partners in this work?

About the Massachusetts Career Ready Database
Descriptions of hundreds of career development activities are recorded in the database each year. Activities include schoolwide career fairs, guest speaker series, STEM industry awareness events, career development workshop series and more. Database users can browse these lists to gather ideas from other schools and regions. Database users can review lists of employers that provide work-based learning or career development. Statewide aggregate data profiles thousands of employers who support youth in work-based learning and career development; local data provides valuable information to support employer outreach. Over 10,000 work-based learning placements are recorded in the database each year. These include placements made through internships programs, summer jobs programs, cooperative education programs and more. Placements are enhanced through the Massachusetts Work-Based Learning Plan, which is the centerpiece of this database.

Reports include, for example, lists and counts of placements; summaries and lists of Work-Based Learning Plan skills; lists of employers; and counts by industry cluster, type of pay, type of employer and other factors. The Reports/Admin screen also provides various administrative features, such as batch editing records, deleting records, setting up usernames for worksite supervisors, and a variety of other features. Each person who uses the database has an account, with a username that is typically the address. Many account settings can be updated on the MY ACCOUNT screen. Account settings include the type of account (employer, intern, or staff) and various default settings for the placement screen. (See the video about Using the MY ACCOUNT screen.) MY ACCOUNT
