Monsoons A seasonal prevailing wind in the region of South and Southeast Asia, blowing from the southwest between May and September and bringing rain (the wet monsoon), or from the northeast between October and April (the dry monsoon).

Citadel A fortress, typically on high ground, protecting a city.

South Asia Modern India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are part of this subcontinent. It is separated from the rest of Asia by tall mountains (the Himalayas and the Hindu Kush).

Himalayas A mountain range extending 1500 miles on the border between India and Tibet; this range contains the world's highest mountain

Hindu Kush A mountain range extending to the west of the Himalayas.

Indus River An Asian river that rises in Tibet and flows through northern India and then southwest through Kashmir and Pakistan to the Arabian Sea.

Indus Script This was the writing system used by the ancient peoples of the Indus River Valley. Historians have yet to decipher, understand, how the writing works or what it means.
