Critical Thinking What is the difference between attraction, closeness, and commitment? Attraction refers to the physical and emotional connection or the “chemistry” that draws people together. Closeness arises from two people sharing special feelings and thoughts they do not share with others. Commitment means promising to be romantically involved only with your dating partner.

Love describes an intense affection and attachment for another person that develops gradually as two people get to know each other. Infatuation describes intense romantic feelings for another person that develop suddenly and are usually based on physical attraction.
