Banned forced labor Served the enslaved African Americans

14th Amendment - 1868 Discrimination still existed
Black Codes were passed Defined US Citizenship Everyone must have “equal protection under the law” Wanted to end people being treated unfairly. Served – African Americans, women, disabilities

15th Amendment – 1870 Last of Civil War Amendments
No state may deny the right to vote because of race However, many states found ways around this Served: African American Men

This made poll taxes illegal in national elections **two years later it was illegal in state elections Served African Americans and poor Whites

26th Amendment Many teens were bravely fighting for our country but could not vote! Voting age WAS 21… Changed voting age to 18 years old
