2. Learning Communities for School Success
Amount of Award: $1.6 million
Timeline: Three years
Purpose: To build a sustainable, multi-tiered system of interventions and support to:
promote school engagement and positive behavior
combat truancy and chronic absenteeism
eliminate disproportionate exclusion and “push out” of students of color

3. Support to District Focus Areas
LCAP Goal 3:
Transforming schools into positive and supportive learning environments:
Support to address the needs of students experiencing behavioral difficulty
Continue community outreach
Maintain staff to address attendance difficulties
Maintain options for middle and high school students
Maintain SAFE Intervention program
Increase Parenting Partners programs
Employ qualified staff to meet needs of a diverse student population

Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS)
Restorative Discipline Practices
Resolution Agreement with the Office for Civil Rights (OCR)

5. LCSSP Target Schools
18 high-need schools in north Stockton 11 elementary schools 3 middle schools 2 high schools 2 alternative schools

6. LCSSP Activities Professional Development
Development of an online training curriculum
Trauma-informed approaches in classrooms and school settings
Stakeholder outreach and engagement
LCSSP Advisory Committee
Student/youth voice
Enhances communication

7. LCSSP Activities Early Warning and Referral System
Community Liaison Assistants
Work with identified at-risk youth focusing on African American students
Utilize Check & Connect program model
Mentoring
Monitoring performance
Interventions
Parent and family engagement

8. LCSSP Activities Mentoring Program
School-based, culturally-centered mentoring focused on African-American male youth
Academic Tutoring
Tutoring for students performing below grade level

9. LCSSP Activities Personnel 1 classified supervisor
to work directly with students and to supervise community liaison assistants
13.5 community liaison assistants
to work with at-risk youth using the Check & Connect program

10. Next Steps Establish a LCSSP work plan
Communicate grant plan to identified school communities
Establish LCSSP Advisory Committee
Identify current staff involved, hire as appropriate
