Evaluation elements: Final written report, presentation to class and guests. Written report: Formal research paper, organized, 12-pt. font, 1” margins, proper citations, end-notes Should include conclusions and recommendations section. May be submitted as group paper or as subgroup shorter papers. Clarify upon submission, should all be submitted as a unit. Please staple or bind! Depending upon organization, each subsection should be minimum of 4 pgs. (could be more) Research expectations: relevant web sources, personal interviews.

Presentation More formal than radio presentations. Clearly articulated introduction and rational flow from subsection to subsection. Conclusions and recommendations flowing from research. Use of appropriate visual aids - should be consistent and professional.

Four “meta-topics” UNCW Student Radio, TV, Internet, Overview of Student Media All campus sponsored through the student media board Teams of 5 or 6 will cover the following topics Evaluation elements: Final written report, presentation to class and guests. Time frame: mid to late March. Research expectations: relevant web sources, personal interviews.

Structure, role and responsibilities of the UNCW Student Media Board. Current status of student media at UNCW. Freedom of speech in student run media at the university level? What oversight must the university administration provide? Funding models - advertising and student media funds…what is allowed and legal? Practical issues - where are media located, where will they move when new union comes on-line?

5 Student-run Radio History of radio at UNCW? What is college radio?
What form could/should a radio station take at UNCW? (e.g., low power AM or FM? Other) Is web radio an option? Technology required to webcast/podcast? Copyright and other legal concerns of web based radio? Can UNCW’s infrastructure handle web radio?

6 Student-run Television
History and current status of SBTV at UNCW? Organization, structure, responsibility, personnel, programming product and schedule (e.g., distribution). What is typical of student television at the university level? What could/should be done to optimize the presence of student run TV at UNCW? What are the possibilities?

7 Student-run Web site What UNCW related web options currently exist?
What limitations/restrictions would exist on a university sponsored web site? What benefits would make such a web site useful and beneficial? What programming, services or content do other such web sites provide and how are they structured?
