What is a Spreadsheet? A spreadsheet is used for storing information and data. Calculations can be performed on the data in a spreadsheet. Microsoft Excel is the most common spreadsheet application, although there are other spreadsheets available.

By the end of this session...
Entry levels 2 & 3 will be able to: Enter information onto a spreadsheet, be able to add up numbers and perform formatting. Levels 1 & 2 will be able to: Do all the above, PLUS use some statistical formulae and graphs. ALL to practice key skills: copying, pasting, opening/closing applications, entering text and numbers.

Parts of a Spreadsheet The cell that you are currently clicked in is called the ACTIVE CELL. It has a thick black line around it. Any text you type will go in this cell.

Parts of a Spreadsheet A LABEL is a piece of TEXT that you add to a spreadsheet to help describe the numbers.

Find your way around Rows (Side to Side) [Numbered] Columns (Up and Down) [Letters] Cell (Every one on these boxes is a cell) Every cell has a name to help you find the right one. Its name starts with the column letter and then the row number. So, this cell is called what? F22

How do we make them look good?
We have lots of formatting techniques we can use. We can : Change the font Turn fonts and cells different colours Change font size Change alignment (left, centre, right) Merge cells Add borders and gridlines Add pictures

Formulae can also be viewed and edited here in the formula bar.
Start with = then create the formula When you press Enter, the formula will automatically be calculated.
