1 Clarification on Scope of draft UN Regulation on Software Updates

2 (including ECU-heating)
Examples 1 and 2 a/b/c on update possibilities in general vs. updates on Type Approved Systems ▲▲▲ ▯▯▯ mirrors defrosting Defrosting (including ECU-heating) (2a) (1) brakes (2b) Air conditioning (incl. ECU-heating & ECU-cooling) (2c) seat heating lighting All SU (incl. e.g. SU on electronically controlled fragrance vaporizer) (1) (2a-c) steering seat positioning ▲▲▲ ▯▯▯

3 Explanation on: (1) updating functions with their impact on type approval relevant parameters
The function „lane change“ will be either newly implemented or updated on a vehicle during it´s lifetime. Two kinds of impacts can be evaluated with regard to UN R Softwareupdates: Impact checked on the following TA relevant systems: Brakes Steering Lighting Example of SU content: An automatic lane change assist will change the behavior of the TA relevant systems brakes and steering to conduct a lane change without taking action by the driver.  TA relevant parameters will be changed by the update. Example of SU content: The TA relevant system lighting will not be affected by the new or updated function „lane change“. The side direction indicator works in the same way and manner before as well as after the update.  TA relevant parameters won´t be changed by the update. documentation of type approval relevance New RxSWIN documentation of type approval irrelevance NO new RxSWIN

4 SU within ecu heating for system „defrosting“
Explanation on: (2) updating of ECUs with/without impact on (related) type approved systems Softwareupdate within system defrosting – Air Condition as non TAS, but it´s ECUs with possible TA relevance either or SU within ecu cooling for system „Air conditioning“ SU within ecu heating for system „defrosting“ (a) (b) (c) Example of SU content: Lowering of the maximum heating power of the windshield heating.  The ecu heating is part of the non TA relevant system air condition The ecu heating is also part of the TA relevant system defrosting  The SU does have an impact on the system defrosting and it´s type approval relevant parameters. Example of SU content: One additional heating level for the passenger compartment rear seat area.  The ecu heating is part of the non TA relevant system air condition The ecu heating is also part of the TA relevant system defrosting  The SU does NOT have an impact on the system defrosting and it´s type approval relevant parameters. Example of SU content: Change of fan levels for cooling of the passenger compartment rear seat area.  The ecu cooling is part of the non TA relevant system air conditioning  The ecu cooling is NOT part of the TA relevant system defrosting  The ecu cooling and it´s software are NOT part of any TA relevant system. They do NEITHER have any impact on the system defrosting, NOR on any TA relevant parameters. documentation of type approval relevance New RxSWIN documentation of type approval irrelevance NO new RxSWIN NO documentation of type approval irrelevance
