Guess What Happened In Our Own Backyard This Week?
“Homes in Henry, Clayton among those raided in $35M marijuana trafficking ring” 26 March 2019

What Happened? JONESBORO — A typical suburban house in a charming subdivision in Jonesboro’s Irondale neighborhood and another house set well back from its neighbors on quiet South Ola Road in Locust Grove turned out to be key locations for a multimillion-dollar marijuana ring out of Gwinnett County.

What Happened? On March 14, law enforcement officers from Gwinnett County, the Gwinnett Metro Drug Task Force, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Administration raided those homes and three others around Metro Atlanta.

What Happened? Agents netted 16 alleged members of two international criminal organizations and over $35 million in pot plants, illegal mushrooms, cocaine, THC oil and THC- laced candy. Officers also seized 22 firearms, 6 vehicles and $676,517 in cash. (If all our found guilty, this $676,517 will be kept as a forfeiture).

What Happened? The Henry County address was South Ola Road, Locust Grove. Henry County tax records show the owner as Tuyen Van Pham, who purchased the 3- bedroom, 2.5-bath home on Oct 28, 2106 for $245,000.

What Do You Think? Do you see how Federal, State and Local agencies must work together? Why do you think this group would choose houses in rural areas like here? These suspects are likely part of an “Asian Crime Group” that was primarily focused on trafficking drugs. Which particular sect do you think they were part of? (Based on our lesson) Triads?, Tongs? Yakuza? Viet Ching?

What’s Next Keep your corrected exams and use them as part of your overall study guides for your end of pathway assessment.
