Grace Fellowship Church
Pastor/Teacher Jim Rickard Title Page Below are some simple instructions on how to use this template: 1. You can change the text in the graphical screen above or in the outline area to the left. 2. There is one default background that is indicated by “ ” .This slide acts as a space or a blank screen, use to clear or blank the screen. If you have a large graphic such as a map you could also use this screen. If you insert a new slide you will get this default background. 3. The first five slides have the other backgrounds for the set. To use more than one of these background types in your presentation highlight the one you wish to use and choose copy from the edit menu. Paste this slide where you want it to appear in your presentation, then change the text on this new slide. By copy/pasting the slide in this manor you will keep the background, text formatting and the customized animation from that slide. By using the copy/paste method you find it saves you time and keeps a consistent look through out your presentation. 4.There are a few additional notes written in the slide text wording that may be helpful. Note: We are working on a website that in the future will provide help topics on using sermon outlines in PowerPoint as well as provide sermon templates similar to this one. Check for more information. Thursday, April 12, 2012

John 17:20-26 Jesus Prays for the Church!
5
Regarding the grace gifts Jesus desires for each of us:

In vs. 1-5, He emphasizes salvation and the gift of eternal life, vs
In vs. 1-5, He emphasizes salvation and the gift of eternal life, vs. 2, “I give eternal life.”
7
In vs. 6-19, He emphasizes the disciples’ protection so that they may have Experiential Sanctification by means of God’s Word resident within their souls: “I have given them Your Word”, vs. 14.
8
In vs. 20-26, He emphasizes our unity and glorification, “I have given them glory.”
9
These gifts take care of the believer’s past, present, and future.
10
The assurances of our Eternal Security:
11
Believers are the Father’s gift to the Son, vs
Believers are the Father’s gift to the Son, vs. 2, and God will not take back His love gifts.
12
2. Christ finished His work
2. Christ finished His work. Because Christ did His work completely, believers cannot lose their salvation.
13
3. Christ was able to keep His own while on earth, and He is able to keep them today, for He is the same Savior.
14
4. Christ knows we will finally be in heaven because He has already given us His glory.
15
5. Christ prayed that we might be in heaven, and the Father always answers His Son’s prayers, John 11:41-42.
16
Two main themes of this portion.
17
1. Unity of believers, “That they may all be one ….”, with, “I in them.”
18
1. Unity of believers, “That they may all be one ….”, with, “I in them.” 2. The glorification of believers; vs. 22, “I have given them the glory that You gave Me.”
19
1. Unity: That all believers might be as one body under one head, animated by one soul, by means of the Word of God and by our union with Christ and with the Father in us, …
20
… all made possible through the indwelling Holy Spirit
… all made possible through the indwelling Holy Spirit. 1 Cor 1:10; 12:12-27; Eph 4:1-6
21
1 Cor 1:10, “Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment.”
22
When we do we will convince the world of the truth and excellence of our belief, and find more fellowship with God and His saints.
23
There is a vast difference between unity (oneness of heart and spirit) and uniformity (everybody being exactly alike).
24
Christ never prayed that all Christians would belong to one world church, or dress alike and talk alike, etc.
25
It is possible for Christians to differ on minor matters and still love one another in Christ.
26
2. Glorification: In the Plan of God, the believer has already been glorified, Rom 8:30.
27
Rom 8:30, “And these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified (in eternity past).”
28
We have been glorified from eternity past due to God the Father’s omniscience of our positive volition towards the gospel message in time. (Eternal Security)
29
The believer has Positional, Experiential and Ultimate Glorification.
30
U – Glorification: Col 3:4, “When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.”
31
Rom 8:18, “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
32
In John 17:22, the Subjunctive Mood of EIMI means there is a potential for this type of G., which speaks to experiential glorification and unity.
33
It is another way of saying, “I have given them Your Word” (i. e
It is another way of saying, “I have given them Your Word” (i.e., manifested You).
