What can a Task Sequence do?
A Task Sequnece can be used for imaging machines which includes placing a new OS on a machine, transferring a users state from one machine to another, performing an in place upgrade of a users machine, and more. Task Sequence for Complex Task Groups A Task Sequnece can be used for imaging machines which includes placing a new OS on a machine, transferring a users state from one machine to another, performing an in place upgrade of a users machine, and more.

Boot Image Operating System Basic Steps The boot image is required for imaging a machine because it provides the Windows PE environment. The boot image is created out of a Boot.Wim which can be found in most Windows OS .Iso files at <file>.iso\sources\boot.wim location. Once uploaded into SCCM it must be deployed to each Distribution Point. The Boot.wim can also be highly customized to make changes to the PE environment. The Operating System file comes in the form of a <file>.iso and can be downloaded from the Volume Licensing Center. Once downloaded and staged the OS can be uploaded under Operating Systems > Operating System Images. The OS image can also be highly customized rather that means loading it, configuring it, syspreping it, and uploading it again or using an Unattend.xml Answer file to do anything from customize the look to preloading accounts For a TS to reach PXE boot each DP needs PXE Enabled under Admin > Site config > Servers and site > DP Property Most Task Sequences will consist of the following steps: Boot into PE with Boot image > Partition Disk > Install Windows Operating System > Apply Windows Settings > Apply Network Settings > Apply Drivers > Setup Windows and SCCM Client > Install Updates and Applications >

A Task Sequence can also be used for many other tasks. One currently in place is to install a series of Applications. This is then placed inside the Task Sequence for imaging. This is done because updating a Task Sequence for imaging can be tedious to update forcing you to enter several passwords every time you do. So to make things easier you just place an Application Task Sequence within the imaging Task Sequence so that when you perform the common task up updating the Applications you can do this quickly without having to enter a series of passwords.

Deploying a Task Sequence
Deployment Content References Once your Task Sequence is built you will have to deploy it to your intended target audience. In the case of OS deployment there are three groups to deploy to. Clients | All > So any machine in SCCM can receive the new image, Workstations | All > so any workstation level machine can receive the new image, and All Unknown Computers > So machines not identified by SCCM can receive the image. Without this they will not get a Task Sequence. For machines to receive the Task Sequence you must ensure it is distributed to all Distribution Points. You must also ensure all Content, Packages, Applications, along with OS related files are distributed. To verify if all parts of the Task Sequence have been distributed you can click the Task Sequence and check the References tab at the bottom which will show you all applications and package contained in the Task Sequence. Each one should show a Compliance of 100%. If it does not right click on it and select View Content Status to see what went wrong.

Tracing a Failure from Start to End
Reading the above log shows that the Distribution Point is not able to locate PackageID UKP001B6. The next step will be to figure out what that package is. Looking at the Task Sequence Reference tab we can see Package ID UKP001B6 matches HP BIOS to EUFI. From here we would check to see if its Compliance is at 100%. In this case it was not. Looking at the Content Status we can see one DP had failed to get the content. From here we can see the issue that occurred. Once we can solve any problems that might be stopping the deployment we can right click and redeploy the content to the Distribution Point monitoring the job if needed. Once it is deployed we are ready to test the resolution.
