1 Our Educational Visit:
Our creative curriculum Topic for the second term in Summer is ‘What A Wonderful World’ we live in! Y5 will be exploring and learning Know about the key features related to the lives of people in their home country and, where appropriate, their parents’- home countries. They will identify with key features related to the lives of people in the host country and/or, where appropriate, other countries in which they have lived. They will know about ways in which the lives of people in the countries they have studied affect each other. Begin to appreciate similarities and differences between the lives of people in different countries Our Educational Visit: This term we will have an ECO Visitor come into the school to tell us all about ECO activities in the local borough. Also Year 5 children will have weekly swimming lessons at Fullwell Cross Leisure Centre. Year 5 SUMMER 1 (2019) What A Wonderful World Mymaths homework will continue on a weekly basis. SPAGonline will be set every two weeks with Bugclub reading! Our value this term is: Courage Physical Education (PE) and Yoga: Weekly swimming lessons will constitute the PE curriculum this term for Year 5. To ensure that children receive the statutory number of hours for PA included Yoga, a further 30 min physical activity session will be included within the teaching of IPC (topic). Children must bring in PE kits for Yoga which happens on a Monday.

2 Philosophy, Religious and Ethics (PRE) and Sanskrit:
English: Science: NC: FORCES In this unit the children will be able to explain that unsupported objects fall towards the Earth because of the force of gravity acting between the Earth and the falling object identify the effects of air resistance, water resistance and friction, that act between moving surfaces recognise that some mechanisms, including levers, pulleys and gears, allow a smaller force to have a greater effect. Computing: The children will learn how to program an online quiz to test our knowledge of biomes. Biomes are a large community of plants and animals that occupies a distinct region. Terrestrial biomes, typically defined by their climate and dominant vegetation, include grassland, tundra, desert, tropical rainforest, and deciduous and coniferous forests. This term, we will continue with our Talk For Write approach and start the term with the text that children have already immersed themselves into: Aliens Landing.  As part of developing our love for reading and writing, our learners will focus on a number of different genres and or texts including The Highwayman Poem, The Piano (instrumental). Philosophy, Religious and Ethics (PRE) and Sanskrit: Maths For Maths we continue with the HUBS scheme of work: Measures Geometry Position and Direction Spanish: Learn to name and describe the planets; construct complex sentences using verbs, nouns, adjectives, qualifying adverbs, connectives and prepositions; consolidate knowledge of the planets in a display at end of unit. Maths: Pupils will learn the basic structure of the Mahabharata, through drama, multimedia, reading, research and the arts (including performance and dance). Pupils should be reminded about the key theological aspects including: atma, Karma, gunas, samsara, Krishna as God and sources of authority. History This term the children will begin to appreciate Natural forces have been shaping our planet for many billions of years and these dramatic changes are still going on, right now, all around us. Throughout this unit we will be learning more about the physical processes that shape our planet – and the vital role that we play in safeguarding our planet and its resources for future generations. PSHE: Year 5 will be exploring the SEAL unit ‘RELATIONSHIPS’. They will talk and write about their opinions, and explain their views, on issues that affect themselves and society. They will discuss and share how to face new challenges positively by collecting information, looking for help, making responsible choices, and by taking action. Most of all they will have the opportunity to also identify strategies to manage feelings associated with loss? Art & Music: How ‘Impressionists’ saw the world Why Japanese printed art was so special How Abstract art developed and how art and music influence each other. In Music they will appreciate and understand a wide range of high-quality live and recorded music drawn from different traditions and from great composers, through this learning they will develop an understanding of the history of music.
