Innovation Design approach
COLIBRI Innovation COLIBRI aims at evaluating the feasibility of establishing a unique Collective energy self-consumption framework to engage citizens in energy transactions, towards realizing the full extent of more democratized and sustainable energy systems. Design approach End-Users and beneficiaries (Prosumers, Energy Cooperatives) are collectively placed at the centre of all design, prototyping and demonstration activities of our project, which adopts a User-Driven Innovation Approach towards addressing emerging end-user and market needs, critical for the successful the realization of its anticipated results.

Relation to the urbanscape Scaling up prospects
COLIBRI Relation to the urbanscape The COLIBRI project aims to democratize energy communities, through enabling individual prosumers to team-up, collaborate and get involved in energy market transactions for the realization of common sustainability goals. The first end-users are envisaged to be energy cooperatives and their prosumers/ members. They typically own and/or operate intermittent renewable generation assets and strive to self-consume their generation. Scaling up prospects Scalability of COLIBRI is tightly connected to some main legal, regulatory and market aspects that are progressively becoming favourable, however they need to be considered as possible barriers. Proliferation of self-consumption faces barriers since in many cases, prosumers/cooperatives are currently hindered from entering energy markets and a clear regulatory framework is missing.
