Animal Facts Description The mantis shrimp is small but it can punch so hard it can break a crabs arm. The mantis shrimp has a long shell for protection. The mantis shrimp is 3.9 inches long. Diet The mantis shrimp is a carnivore it eats crabs clams and small fish. Mantis shrimp lives in tropical and subtropical waters in the Indian and Pacific oceans between eastern Africa and Hawaii. Life Cycle The mantis shrimp lays eggs. It takes 35 to 70 days to hatch. Right after the baby is born it leaves it’s home. The mantis shrimp baby is looks like there parents but much smaller. After a few years there parents don’t remember there babies. The adult mantis shrimp live up to 20 years. Mantis shrimp live by themselves. The males have the colorful skin and the females are mostly red.
