2 Choosing the right Degree
LLB v BA/BSc LLB is a ‘qualifying law degree’  BA/BSc will often require a conversion programme on completion Enhanced options – provide students with a wider range of subject knowledge LLB with Languages – especially useful for those wishing to work in international law firms LLB with joint honours – Law study can be combined with subject such as Politics, International Relations, Business & Management etc Employability – additional degree features Study Abroad Moot Courts Volunteering opportunities (Go Glasgow Justice) LLB v BA/BSc: A Law degree won’t qualify a student as a Lawyer/Solicitor on graduation but will allow them to undertake the additional examinations/diploma required depending on where they wish to study. A BA/BSc won’t necessarily allow this so they have to undertake a conversion programme first. (Worth also mentioning that we now offer LLB Common Law in addition to LLB Scots Law specifically to support our international students). Enhanced options: LLB with joint honours more widely available in Scotland thanks to the benefits of the 4 year degree structure. Employability: Moot court: Sir Alexander Stone court room at UofG plus lots of national and international competition participation ( Go Glasgow Justice: law students can undertake work experience with organisations such as Citizens Advice, Shelter Scotland & Lawyers without Borders (

3 Applying Academic requirements Personal Statement LNAT
Vary by University but Law entry requirements are generally high. Most Universities require 3 x A ABB – AAA or IB 34 points minimum English is a mandatory subject for many of the top Universities Personal Statement Why Law and what aspects attract you? Experience and what lessons learned Avoid jargon and use of legal terms Demonstrate work ethic and awareness of current issues LNAT Mandatory for many Universities in the UK including the Universities of Glasgow, Bristol, Durham, Kings College London, LSE, Nottingham, Oxford, SOAS & UCL.

4 Law National Admissions Test
What is the LNAT 2 ¼ hour test Section A – multiple choice questions based on argumentative passages (95 minutes) Section B -  answer an essay question to demonstrate ability to argue and conclude effectively (40 minutes) Test of aptitude and not knowledge Over 500 test centres in 165 countries Students can familiarise themselves with format for free on the LNAT website ( Why do we use the LNAT? Differentiation tool for an oversubscribed subject area Objective identification of the best students Personal statements are subjective, LNAT scores enable transparency in application process Ensures applicants have coherent writing skills
