Pre-Game Duties Departure for Arena and Pre-Game Locker Room Duties

2 Before Departure Make sure you know where/when your game is at and allow ample time to arrive on time Different associations will require an allocated amount of time before the game, typically minutes in advance Develop a routine when packing your equipment and always double check that you have everything before leaving for the arena Dress professional Business casual attire for all games. Check with local association for attire for special games.

3 ARRIVAL Be pleasant and courteous to rink staff
Avoid long conversations with team officials Do not discuss other officials, teams or games with team officials Don't linger in public areas

4 DRESSING ROOM Keep the dressing room private for you and your officiating team Stretch and warm up Discuss upcoming game with partners Teams playing and who the coaches are How you want to handle certain situations with your partner

5 On Ice - Pre-Game Enter the ice before the teams
Familiarize yourself with Player benches and penalty benches Gate(s) teams will use to enter/exit the ice Check for safety hazards with the ice, boards, etc.

6 DURING WARM-UPS Introduce yourself to the Off-Ice Officials. Remember that the scorekeepers are part of your team. Check the scoresheet and make sure all information is completed properly (i.e. date, time, location) Introduce yourself to the coaching staff of each team If a coach forgot to fill out his CEP #, phone or sign the scoresheet, this is the time to attain that information

7 AFTER WARM-UPS Check both nets and ensure there are no pucks left over from warm ups. Properly anchor the nets in place, if necessary (different age levels in different districts will dictate when the “pegs” are necessary) Make sure proper game pucks are available (typically borrow two or three pucks from the home team) Blow your whistle to summon teams to opening face-off Ensure that everyone is ready to go, especially Partner(s) and Off-Ice Officials Drop the puck, be safe and have fun!
