Replace with new electronics. 2 Consolidation of ISOLDE BI Mechanics Missing Consolidation of 7 very old transformers in L2 (L4) transfer line & 5 in Booster Injection line 3 Consolidation of PSB BTV mechanisms Profit from production of new bellowless design for LIU to consolidate all PSB screen mechanisms 4 Mechanical Spares for Critical PS Systems Construction of spare parts for operationally critical BI. Full inventory in LS1 resulted in prioritised list with input from OP. Additional budget added to complete. 5 Consolidation of AD Electron Cooler Consolidation options recently reviewed – awaiting final report. Current budget foresees complete replacement of existing cooler. Full inventory in LS1 resulted in prioritised list with input from OP. May need additional budget. 3 SPS DCCT & Transfer Line FBCT Replacement Currently relying on industry with service contract. Will pay for itself in long run, need to cover both contract & development in short term 4 Consolidation of SPS Ring BLM System Was LIU-SPS but cannot be done until after LS2 (manpower constraints). SPS system already showing signs of degradation. Urgent request from OP & MPP for additional protection. Replace with same electronics as SPS Ring. Need early decision to profit. 6 Consolidation of TI2/TI8 Transfer Line BLMs Based on old SPS BLMs & electronics. Consolidate at same time as SPS ring system (LS3) or LHC (LS4) 7 SPS & Transfer Line BLM ionisation chamber replacement Not originally foreseen in SPS BLM consolidation. Degradation of existing monitors & lack of spares imply 750 new monitors required for SPS consolidation. Proposed to be funded through in-kind Russian contribution as part of HL request 8 Consolidation of SPS Ionisation Profile Monitor (BGI) Replacement of current system based on MCP and radiation tolerant camera with system based on LIU-PS TIMEPIX solution. Reduces maintenance costs (MCP & camera ageing) while adding performance. Possible collaboration with Liverpool (UK) 2Y CERN funding & 2Y Liverpool. 3 BTV Monitor Consolidation Consolidation of 3 radiation damaged BTV systems to modern standards using optical line & digital cameras. 4 Consolidation of North Area BLM system Consolidation of BLMs. Ageing system already leading to SPS NA Physics downtime. Urgent, minimal, temporary intervention to ensure functioning to LS3 carried out in LS2. Already running with hardware patch to allow old cards to run with new processors under Linux. New estimate up from 500kCHF to 755kCHF 2 Consolidation of 65 Wire Chambers & FISCS with XBPF (scintillating fibre monitor) No longer possible to easily maintain MWPCs or produce new ones. XBPF proven to be viable alternative in EHN1. Original request for 200kCHF to consolidate some in LS2 not granted. Full vertical slice to be installed during LS2. 2 VME Fan Replacement Missing Currently completing replacement of power supply fans with fan-tray fans foreseen next. 3 Mechanical Spares for Critical LHC Beam Instrumentation Construction of spare parts for operationally critical BI. Presented & approved at LMC. (Wirescanners, Dump BTV & special flanges). 4 Consolidation of LHC Wirescanner Electronics Replacement of ageing electronics to improve reliability during operation. 5 Consolidation of LHC Wirescanner Mechanics New Request to HL cut in first budget review. Current, old LEP mechanics not viable for HL era. Only development costs paid by CONS. Production paid by HL-LHC. 7 Consolidation of Standard LHC BLM System Replacement of surface electronics to address reliability issues with current digital aquisition system. A vertical slice will be in place for end LS2. 8 LHC Spares: BLM Ionisation Chamber Spares New XX spare ionisation chambers required for LHC. Proposed to be funded through in-kind Russian contribution as part of HL request along with same type to be procured for SPS. 9 Consolidation of Standard LHC BLM System Tunnel front-end Electronics BLM tunnel electronics to be replaced during LS4. Will profit from SPS development and production. LHC (3 of 3) No. Activity / Workunit STATUS [EDMS] Description & Consequences 10 Consolidation of Standard LHC BPM System Active Needs complete renovation of all electronics to maintain reliability for HL-LHC era. Assume that fibre-optic cabling is re-used. 2.275MCHF from R2E R2E pays for development of radiation tolerant tunnel components & EP fellows developing single mode fibre transmission system. R2E fellow foreseen for production of these components recently cut – but essential to the project! Hoping for in-kind contribution from Russia. Replacement of Analogue Cameras Production of current cameras being phased out. Majority need replacing by digital cameras by LS3 LHC Wirescanner Mechanics 680 Essential calibration tool for beam size in LHC. Consequence would be further degradation of accuracy & reproducibility. LHC BLM System Tunnel Electronics End of life foreseen by LS4. Consequence would be loss of availability of LHC BLM system. North Area Primary Lines 1/2/3 1148 Priorities & consequences being addressed by BI-EA Working Group North Area Secondary Lines 3090 TT2/TT10 BPM Electronics 2 350 Maintenance problematic. No spares beyond LS3. TI2/TI8 BLMs 630 Reduced availability. Maintenance difficult beyond LS3. Not originally planned to exchange for SPS, but delay from LS2 to LS3 with recent issues & few spares means this should be reconsidered Also required for transfer lines & LHC spares Has been targeted for Russian (IHEP) in-kind delivery through HL-LHC Awaiting outcome of decision North Area Consolidation Huge effort by BE-BI, EN-EA & TE-ABT to define the needs for consolidation throughout the North Area and its primary lines BI-EA working group set-up to agree on scope & define priorities Input now provided to North Area consolidation project with BI needs Priorities still to be clearly defined Consolidation of the LHC BPM System Need to ensure finance for R2E fellow to complete the production and test of up to 10,000 laser transmitter/receivers. 2019 ATS Consolidation Day R.
