Prevented war by… providing new and weaker nations with financial aid so that communist countries couldn’t influence them to turn them into communist.

Prevented war by… the Soviets shot down a spy plane right before the U.S. and Russia were abut to attend a peace summit (meeting)and Eisenhower tried to cover it up and say that it was an accident to avoid war. Krushchev got very angry and broke up the peace summit.
