FCCLA Rubric Highlight important details and parts that you must include in your STAR Event To the right is an example of what to look for when you closely examine your STAR Events rubric.

FCCLA Planning Process MUST include for all Events Identify Concern:
Begin with statistic(s) that support the concern, and Build projects that fit the concern and relate to the curriculum. Set a Goal: Be sure the goal links to the concern, Set a specific measurable goal, and Tie in FACS standards and National Programs.

FCCLA Planning Process Form a Plan:
Decide Who, What, When, Where and How the project should be accomplished. Act: Completely detail the accomplished plan of action. Follow Up: Evaluate the success of the project using a pre- and post-survey, Publicize, publicize, publicize!

Tips and Tricks for Portfolios
Only use the Official FCCLA binder. All pages must fit in dimensions of cover. Choose a theme to incorporate throughout book. Pages are to be one-sided only. Page numbering and division tabs are helpful. Non-glare cover pages add a sleek and professional look. Review rubrics for decorative restrictions.

Electronic Portfolio Use PowerPoint, Prezi, or other electronic format. Must provide technology to show evaluators the project. Maximum number of slides vary with category. Once an entry is submitted, it cannot be changed to a hard copy portfolio for presentation.

Portfolio Tips and Tricks
Divider pages and slides cannot have content. Incorporate & use during presentation. Have others proofread for grammar and spelling. Refer to rubrics for specific project details.

Visuals Make sure all words are spelled correctly and ask several people to proofread it. Visual must be used during the presentation.

Attention grabbing opening is vital. Incorporate the planning process. Organize the speech according to the rubric categories. Conclusion should tie into the opening statement.

Practice, Practice, Practice
Students need to practice early and often. Go through the presentation at least twice a day. Enlist a wide variety of audiences. Encourage students to practice in front of a mirror. Video the student.

Know the National Programs and the Purposes
Students need to be prepared for judges to ask about FCCLA Purposes or National Program and how they related to the project.

Insider Tips Utilize media personalities for judges to get exposure of chapter projects. Get rid of note cards. In portfolios, highlight any rubric topic so judges can quickly locate information. Highlight FCCLA purposes and FACS standards. Consider student personalities when organizing teams. Recycle non-placing projects.
