Carbon’s atomic symbol is C Iron’s atomic symbol is Fe

4 Atomic Number Also known as the Proton Number, because it tells you the number of protons each element has Remember: the atom is neutral……. So… So the number of protons (+) MUST be equal to the number of electrons (-). Atomic Number = # of protons = # of electrons

5 Atomic Mass

6 Atomic Mass The nucleus contains all the atoms mass
The nucleus is made up of protons (+) and neutrons (no charge) So… So….Atomic Mass = protons + neutrons
