1. Act 1 Scene 3 Summary:
Mr Byrne is in the Polpin shop with Gert purchasing his groceries
Teddy Heelin arrives
Teddy begins to make advances on Gert “I’ll take you out some night”, “I think about you in a very special way”
Teddy and Gert arrange a date for that night.
Maggie enters the shop and orders Gert back into the kitchen.
Maggie begins to interrogate Teddy to find out what his intentions are with Gert “You had a grand chat with Gert before I came out?”, “You say you have honourable intentions. Does this mean you intend to marry her one day?”
Teddy begins to feel interrogated by Maggie’s questions and assures her that the only thing missing from his life is a girl like Gert “something has been missing”
Teddy (The womaniser that he is) sees an opportunity to make advances on Maggie when she is interrogating him “Oh, she’s a beauty but maybe I need someone more…. Mature”
Teddy begins to pursue Maggie when she begins to talk about how her husband hadn’t slept with her in ten years.
“Ten years… that’s a long time”, “I hate to think of anyone being unhappy. There’s no reason for it now you’re free.”
Teddy and Maggie arrange to meet later that night at Gert’s expense.

3. Task:
From your reading of Act 1 Scene 3 create posters on the character of Teddy Heelin
Your Posters should include words which you would use to describe Teddy Heelin (Make sure they’re appropriate) attached to these words should be a quote from the scene (or previous scenes if you wish) and an explanation.
Use dictionary/thesaurus/internet for words to describe Teddy

4. TEDDY HEELIN
Womaniser

Here Teddy is flirting with Gert in order to get his way with her.
Impulsive
“The sooner the better. Tonight!”
Teddy doesn’t think about the consequences his actions with Maggie might lead to.
