3 What is ABI/INFORM Collection?
Dateline Global Trade & Industry ABI/INFORM Collection includes all content found in ABI/INFORM Global, ABI/INFORM Dateline, and ABI/INFORM Trade and Industry.  The content in these 3 separate databases is cross searchable on ABI/INFORM Collection.

4 Why search ABI/INFORM Collection?
Scholarly Journals and Dissertations Key Market Research Reports Major Magazines, Newspapers, and Trade Journals Blog, podcasts & Websites Dissertations & Theses Magazines Newspapers Reports Scholarly Journals Trade Journals Wire Feeds Other sources 1) ABI/INFORM Collection includes a very large number of full-text scholarly journals and dissertations to support the academic research in the discipline. Key ongoing full-text journals include titles like Journal of Business Ethics, American Economic Review, MIT Sloan Mangement Review. 2) It also covers key market research reports, such as those published by Economist Intelligence Unit, Dun & Bradstreet and Business Monitor International. Major business magazines and trade journals like Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC and Reed Business Information Limited are also included 3) ABI/INFORM Collection also contatins prominent periodicals like Wall Street Joruanl, The Economist and Financial Times, which can be used beyond the field of research, but in various learning situations. 4) Indexed information by industry filters and topics allows specialized search for the contents of a specific industry

6 Objective: Assess the value of the ABI Inform’s Collection contents
Firstly, let’s do a simple search. Suppose you are interested in how marketing is done in insurance industry. Simply enter the keywords into the search box. Tips: Use quotation marks (“”) to search for exact phrases. Two word queries such as advertising campaigns are searched as an implicit AND Suppose you’re a student in marketing. And you’d like to know how marketing is evolving in the insurance industry because you’re thinking of working in the industry. How can we find the contents in ABI/INFORM Collection? Type marketing “insurance industry” into the search box. « Search Tips » helps you to create your search. Use quotes for exact phrase search.

Narrow down the search results with the filters on your left. Use the Source type filter to display a particular type of contents. In this exercise, we look at Dissertations & Theses and Reports.

This is a sample of Reports. User the Document type filter to narrow down the results further to industry Reports. These report have some specialized analyses and data created by (non-academic) industry experts.

10 Objective: Differentiate between Search and Proximity Search to find content in a particular industry. Tips: Use NEAR + / + # of Words to conduct a proximity search. With the operator NEAR, you can find documents that contain the both keywords within the proximity of a certain number of words. Type marketing NEAR/5 “insurance industry” into the search box. The search result this time is much lower than the previous one, which was a simple AND search. « Search Tips » helps you to create your search. Use NEAR + / + # of Words or PRE for proximity search.

Open Advanced Search to use Classification code Click Look up Classification codes to find the industry of your interest, or other business-related search categories

You can find the industry filter either by search with the industry keyword or using the trees below Search with aircraft Select Aircraft Manufacturing from the result and click Add to search

Objective: Learn to use Publication Search to find results within a specific title Open the Publications tab and find the report Let us look for Journal of Financial Services Marketing as an example Please note the drop down next to search box alllows you to change the seach fields available other than in title You can limit publication date

You can enter the publication code of the title into the Advanced Search interface by clicking Advanced Search. You can browse specific issues of the title from the trees below. You can limit publication date
