The City of Gold Revelation 21:18
Prepared by Chris Reeves * Eastside church of Christ Gospel Meeting * October 09, 2015
3
Lost Cities of Gold Many are the legends of lost cities of gold: El Dorado, Cibola, etc. Many Spaniards in the 1500’s lost their lives in a vain search for these elusive, fanciful cities of gold What can we learn from 4 men who actually found the “city of gold”, heaven itself (Rev. 21:18)
4
Heaven: The City of Gold
Abraham sacrificed for it (Heb. 11:10-16) We are we willing to give up, to sacrifice to go to heaven (Mt. 6:19-20; Mk. 10:21; Lk. 12:33; 18:22)? We are pilgrims in search of a heavenly city (Heb. 13:14)
5
Heaven: The City of Gold
Paul longed for it (2 Cor. 4:16 – 5:8; Phil. 1:23; 2 Tim. 4:6, 18) Do we long to live in heaven with our heavenly body (Phil. 3:20; 1 Cor. 15:47-49)? We need heaven as our goal and we need to keep our eye on it (Phil. 3:14; Col. 3:1-3; Pet. 3:13-14; Rev. 3:12)
6
Heaven: The City of Gold
John saw it and wrote about it (Rev ) Do we read, sing, and pray about heaven regularly? It is a new heavens and earth (Rev. 21:1; Pet. 3:10-13), a new Jerusalem (Rev. 21:2; 3:12; Heb. 12:22), and a new paradise (Rev. 2:7; 22:1-5)
7
Heaven: The City of Gold
Jesus has prepared it (Jn. 14:1-2) Do we know that Jesus wants us to be with him in heaven (Jn. 14:3, 12, 28; 17:24; Thess. 4:16-17)? Our reward (Mt. 5:12; Lk. 6:23), our names (Lk. 10:20; Heb. 12:23), our hope (Col. 1:5), and our inheritance is reserved in heaven (1 Pet. 1:4)

Heaven: The City of Gold
It is not a myth, it is truth! It is not elusive, it is within reach! It is not a death in vain, it is a worthy death!
