HL-LHC Quality management
Update on PBS and WBS and Quality plan The HiLumi LHC Design Study (a sub-system of HL-LHC) is co-funded by the European Commission within the Framework Programme 7 Capacities Specific Programme, Grant Agreement
2
Quality management This presentation addresses : EDMS structure for HL
It is structured as follows: What existed for LHC From the past to the present. Evolution and needs Names, items, projects and documents creation cycle Next steps
3
What existed for the LHC
LHC documentation was handled with EDMS The document LHC-PM- QAP-202 defined the document types of the LHC configuration baseline There was a coded name for every document that should be kept
4
What existed for the LHC
The coded name allowed to find all documents related to a family of equipment For example If I look for LHC-MQX I will find:
5
What existed for the LHC
Documents were stored in the hardware Baseline
6
What existed for the LHC
The parameters of a family of equipment were defined in the Parameters and layout committee The information was displayed by equipment code
7
From the past to the present. What we need?
The old Parameters & Layout page is now obsolete. The information should be managed by the present corporate tools that is the LHC equipment catalogue. The LHC equipment catalogue contains today key parameters which are relevant to a large set of users without going into too much specific details. The equipment catalogue is fully integrated into the Layout and configuration DBs and actively used today by operations, MAD generation files, ELQA campaigns or HWC tests.
8
From the past to the present. What we need?
To be able to continue storing information on the official systems but be able to find HL data without navigating
9
From the past to the present. What we need?
Parameters will be a mirror or the LHC equipment catalogue Documents will be updated automatically by any document introduced in the hardware Baseline with the same equipment code but you will be able to create documents that are not “compulsory” and that will have a normal EDMS numbering MQXF
10
Creation cycle More details will be given in the next PLC but which are the basic concepts? A new equipment is needed for HL Following the PLC An equipment code will be assigned following the rules of the LHC naming conventions Name Slot An slot will be pre assigned (physically and temporally) Characteristics The characteristics will be defined and added to the equipment catalogue
11
Creation cycle The WPs teams will work on the R&D of the new equipment looking for variants, alternatives, solutions, … A new equipment is needed for HL Following the HLTC The HLTC will assess all the various technical systems proposed, their impact on machine performance and on machine availability and reliability and have technical solutions developed by the various expert teams Feasibility Documentation The HLTC will create the list of technical and managerial documentation required for the Hardware baseline following the LHC quality plan The EDMS will adapt following the needs of the WP leaders ….
12
From the past to the present. What we need?
When a new equipment will be created the item will be added to the EDMS structure of the WP MQXF MQXF MQXF MQXF And the documents that should have to go to the HWB will be linked to the WP folder and so on every time a new equipment code for HL is defined
13
What’s next With the support of the Project office the LHC quality working group will restart again in order to update the quality documentation to be used in HL
