Overall, the present clinical trial lends further support to the viability of symptomatic treatment alternatives of acute lower uncomplicated urinary tract infections to antibiotics by demonstrating non-inferiority of a herbal treatment alternative, which had fewer gastrointestinal side effects such as diarrhoea and abdominal pain compared to antibiotics. This trial may encourage wider adoption of antibiotic alternatives, such as Canephron for the treatment of lower uncomplicated urinary tract infections in routine clinical practice.
