2 The Three-Fifths Compromise
What rights did slaves have? What were their political rights? Which 4 states had the most slaves? What part of their population were made up of slaves? How do the populations of these 4 states compare to the populations of other states?

3 Should slaves be counted in the states population when we’re coming with how many representatives each state gets? Yes – because they are people too No – they were not treated the same. They were being used. Promotes slavery. No political rights. They shouldn’t be counted like they do get the rights. They are not being treated like humans. For Ex: VA Total population: 747, 550 Slave population: 292, 627 What kind of laws would VA support? They would support pro slavery laws, but their slaves (3/8 of their population) would not support those same laws. The Three Fifths Compromise States with large slave populations wanted slaves to count. States with no slaves or small slaves population did not slaves to count for representation because slaves were not being treated equally. COMPROMISE: for every 5 slaves = 3 people, 1 slave= 3/5 of a person We’ll get rid of slavery in 20 years.
