Mitosis
2
Mitosis is divided into four phases:
Prophase Metaphase Anaphase Telophase
3
Prophase Longest phase of mitosis. Chromosomes condense.
Centrioles separate. Spindle begins to form. Nuclear envelope breaks down.
4
Metaphase Chromosomes line up across the center of the cell.
Each chromosome is connected to a spindle fiber at its centromere.
5
Anaphase The sister chromatids separate into individual chromosomes and move apart.
6
Telophase Chromosomes gather at opposite ends of the cell and lose their shape. Two nuclear envelopes form.
7
Cytokinesis The cytoplasm pinches in half.
Each daughter cell has an identical set of duplicate chromosomes.
