We’re going to take a few minutes to take a brief look at what our union looks like and how we currently relate to our members.

4. DLC Variation 1 worksite Approx. 4079 Workers
Currently, our staff are assigned to DLCs. But like most things in life, not all DLCs are created equal. DLC 746 look great; one worksite with over 4,000 workers.

5. DLC Variation Over 70 sites (across 6 counties) Approx. 1568 workers
But wait, DLC 792 only has 1,568 workers. That’s gotta be much easier to deal with… If you ignore the fact that it’s 1,500 workers are spead across 6 rural counties at over 70 worksites.

6. DLCs and Departments On average, a DLC contains 20 departments
DLC 761 has the fewest with 3
DLC 788 has the most with 41
Now let’s take a look at DLCs and departments. READ SLIDE. Whether your DLC is 40,000 square miles or 4 blocks, a DLC can still have dozens of departments with separate specific issues.

As I said earlier, we represent state workers in over 120 departments. Let’s take a look at the 10 largest departments. (REFER TO MAP AS WORKSITES ARE ADDED.) Did you know that two-thirds of our union is located in these 10 departments?

A couple of facts about our bargaining units. We all know that Units 1 and 4 are our biggest units. Together, they make up 80% of our union, and they represent a majority of the employees in virtually every department we represent. They are everywhere. But did you know that nearly all of the employees in bargaining units 3, 15, 17 and 20 work in 24-hour institutions in just 5 departments? (READ SLIDE) Some food for thought. Maps showing the worksites of the ten largest departments, along with a copy of this power point presentation, are provided in envelopes on your table.
