2 Project background Project: Enabling Communities to Combat Child Trafficking through Education Project Location: Indonesia (5 provinces) Implementer: Save the Children with IOM serving as sub-contractor and key partner Partners: government actors, NGOs, community-based organisations Project duration: September 2004 – June 2009 (prolonged till June 2012) Funds: USD (plus additional USD ) One main target: provide direct educational services to trafficked children Mid-term evaluation: 2007 (independent) Our task: end-of-term evaluation (2012)

3 Key assumptions Education will contribute to the end of child trafficking. Family and employers allow children to participate in the educational activities. Implementing partners have the capacities to carry out their tasks. Trafficked children are enrolled and there is no significant drop-out. Child trafficking is a priority for government especially for the Ministry of Education.

4 To reduce the number of children trafficked for domestic
IMPACT To reduce the number of children trafficked for domestic labour and commercial sexual exploitation OUTCOMES Change in attitude of general public towards trafficked children Increased number of trafficked children finishing the educational programmes Improved access to education for trafficked children OUTPUTS Victims and those at risk enrolled in educational programmes Children withdrawn from exploitive labour conditions Raised awareness about the effects of child trafficking Government policy developed and implemented ACTIVITIES Trained educators Enroll children in educational programme Provide psychological and medical assistance to the victims of trafficking Organize working groups on govt. policy on providing education for trafficked children Train educators Identify trafficked children and those at risk /work with social workers Organize workshops and campaigns for different target groups INPUTS: funds, training materials, staff, etc.
