Initial ideas to address
In what ways does false, misleading or incomplete information show up and create risks within your business? Are there parts of the business more susceptible? Parts that are more “at risk”? How have you addressed this problem so far, if at all? What have you found to be effective? With each new type of publication platform (blogging, Twitter), users need to re-educate themselves all over again about the potential to be misled. How does the pace of change affect your own information use, that of your information team, and how you communicate with users and stakeholders?

Questions for the panel
Where within your business do you see the biggest risks with regard to information literacy? Are there types of users or categories of information that have you particularly concerned? Today we’re all producers of content as well as consumers of it. In what ways does this shift make the problems of false, misleading or poorly analysed information more challenging? Within your business, who do you think holds or should hold primary responsibility for addressing the problem of information literacy?

Practical actions Pause and think, especially before passing on
“Is this my responsibility?” “Who can help me?” Where is there likely to be a material impact on the business?
